• National Urban League
  In 2006, The Citizens Charitable Foundation made a $300,000 donation to the National Urban League to help victims of Hurricane Katrina. The donation helped fund job training, placement and counseling services for displaced victims in many of the major cities where Citizens operates including Boston, Providence, R.I., Philadelphia, Pittsburgh and Chicago. Citizens' donation to the National Urban League came in response to the devastating hurricane that hit the Gulf Coast in August, 2005. Citizens Financial Group colleagues took the funding set aside to celebrate the company's annual Employee Appreciation Week and earmarked the money for relief efforts. Citizens' annual Colleague Appreciation Week is an event that recognizes and honors the hard work and dedication of the company's 26,000 colleagues.

• U.S. Hispanic Chamber of Commerce Conference
  The U.S. Hispanic Chamber of Commerce hosted its annual conference in Philadelphia in September, 2006. The convention serves as the country's premier business and networking event for Hispanic entrepreneurs and business leaders from all sectors of the economy. It also brings together large corporations, national organizations and government agencies that want to partner with the fastest growing segment of the nation's marketplace. Citizens supported the convention with a $10,000 grant, helping to underwrite “Bizfest,” a program for high school entrepreneurs. The program cultivates the next generation of Hispanic business leaders through hands-on training, mentoring with successful role models and the development of lifelong learning and strategic thinking skills.

• Chinese American Service League and Charter One
  Charter One has partnered with the Chinese American Service League to offer housing services and financial literacy assistance to Chicago's Chinese American community. In 2006, Charter One and the Chinese American Service League held a grand opening for CASL's new Housing Center, an initiative designed to educate and assist the Chinese American community with housing and financial literacy needs. The Charter One Charitable Foundation is the lead corporate sponsor of the CASL Housing Center. The CASL Housing Center program offers bilingual seminars, workshops and individual counseling on financial literacy and housing. The center will have a collection of information on a variety of housing and financial literary topics in both English and Chinese.

• Technical Assistance Center for Emerging Contractors Program
  Citizens Bank has joined a consortium of nine banks in greater Philadelphia to make financing available to minority contractors. Through the African American Chamber of Commerce of Philadelphia's Emerging Contractors Program, Citizens has provided technical assistance and resources to ensure that minority contractors get the access to the financing they need to sustain and grow their companies. Citizens Bank has far surpassed the other banks in the number of contractors assisted and actual loans closed through this program.

• Rosa Parks bus seat
  Citizens Bank and the Capital District Transit Authority in Albany, N.Y., unveiled a special memorial seat in honor of Rosa Parks, the unassuming seamstress from Montgomery, Alabama whose refusal to relinquish her seat to a white man aboard a public bus stirred a nation's consciousness and touched off the cataclysmic civil rights movement of the 1950s and 1960s. The memorial seat, located in the first row, behind the bus driver of a CDTA bus in the Capital Region, was reupholstered in a red material to stand out from the others on the bus. Attached to the wall near the seat an inscription reads: "In memory of Rosa Parks, provided by Citizens Bank."

• African American Family Day
  Citizens Bank is proud to have been the 2005 presenting sponsor of the African American Family Day at the Empire State Plaza in Albany, N.Y. More than 20,000 people attended the day-long event, which featured four stages of music for all ages. The event is dedicated to embodying the Five Community Principles: family, love, peace, respect and unity. It is a special day to celebrate African American culture and its rich traditions through music, art, friends, neighbors and clergy.

• Underground Railroad Project
  The Citizens Charitable Foundation awarded a $5,000 grant to the Underground Railroad Project of Albany, N.Y. to support the restoration of the Stephen and Harriet Myers residence - Stephen and Harriet published and edited the newspaper entitled the Northern Star and Freemen's Advocate newspaper in the 1840s (and Stephen is referred to as the Superintendent of the Underground Railroad in the 1850s). There is only one location in the Capital Region where they resided that has not been destroyed over the years: 194 Livingston Avenue in Albany. The Myers site was named to the National Park Service's National Network to Freedom giving the site national visibility among Underground Railroad sites around the country.

• Chicago Urban League and Charter One
  Charter One has partnered with the Chicago Urban League to launch a $300,000, three-year commitment to provide education and training programs for first time home buyers as part of Bank's Neighborhood Housing Initiative. The program is managed by the Chicago Urban League and its affiliate, the Chicago Urban League Development Corporation (CULDC).

• Spanish Coalition for Jobs Customer Service & Sales Program
  Charter One in Chicago has partnered with the Spanish Coalition for Jobs to implement the "Customer Service & Sales Program," a new professional job development training curriculum that will focus on providing exceptionally-trained bilingual candidates, particularly individuals from underserved backgrounds, for the service and sales industries.

• Homes for Englewood Development
  Charter One in Chicago has partnered with the Rebirth of Englewood Community Development Corporation to help launch the Homes for Englewood Development, an affordable housing development to build 550 homes in Chicago's Englewood Community, which is led by Congressman Bobby L. Rush of the First Congressional District of Illinois.

• Illinois Tax Counseling Project
  Charter One in Chicago has partnered with the Center for Economic Progress to help support Illinois' Tax Counseling Project, a free tax preparation service available in 35 mainly lower-income and minority communities, to assist families and individuals in filing their tax returns and claim valuable tax credits.

• Hispanic Heritage Month
  As part of Charter One, Illinois' celebration and recognition of national Hispanic Heritage Month, Charter One participated in the Latino Cultural Center of Chicago's annual Vive La Hispanidad celebration.
  
  Charter One in Illinois sponsored the Latino Council On the Media's conference and awards luncheon and a Charter One representative served as the organization's emcee and program director for the community educational workshops.

• Asian Pacific American Heritage Month
  As part of Charter One, Illinois' celebration and recognition of national Asian Pacific American Heritage Month, Charter One participated in the Chinese American Service League's annual celebration and awards dinner.

• Leadership in the New Century (LINC)
  Charter One is proud to support Michigan Roundtable for Diversity and Inclusion's Leadership in the New Century (LINC) program. LINC focuses on diversity education programs for K-12 systems empowering school and youth leaders with knowledge and skills for building communities that are safe, respectful and inclusive for everyone. Sandra Pierce, state president & CEO, Charter One, Michigan, serves on the board of Michigan Roundtable for Diversity and Inclusion.

• New Detroit’s Leadership Summit on Race
  In 2006, New Detroit held its first Leadership Summit on Race that brought together 300 area leaders to improve race relations in the region through concrete actions. A steering committee comprised of 24 leaders from business, labor, government, religion, and community organizations helped plan the program. Sandra Pierce, state president & CEO, Charter One, Michigan served on the business steering committee.
  
  The two days of presentations, dialogue, analysis and brainstorming led to the identification of 11 post-summit projects. Charter One actively participated in the summit and is continuing work through several colleagues volunteering on follow-up subcommittees.

Martin Luther King, Jr. Day commitments

• The Civil Rights Roundtable's Annual MLK Jr. Celebration
  The Citizens Charitable Foundation underwrites a Civil Rights Roundtable celebration of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. by education membership on key civil rights issues likely to come before the General Assembly or the public in the upcoming year. The legacy of Dr. King is honored through this yearly policy forum.

• Ministers' Alliance of RI Annual Martin Luther King Jr. Scholarship Breakfast

• Neighborworks Blackstone River Valley Annual MLK Jr. Day Celebration
  Citizens Charitable Foundation gave a grant for a day-long experience of community learning and celebration focused on the teaching of Martin Luther King, Jr. The workshops focused on nonviolence, diversity and cultural awareness.

• RI Black Storytellers Celebration for Black History Month
  Citizens Bank, Rhode Island sponsored the Funda Festival being held in schools throughout the state of Rhode Island and nearby Massachusetts providing educational and cultural experiences. Public events include family storytelling concerts, storytelling workshops for all ages, a Spoken Word event and a night of storytelling for adults. It is a rich cultural arts experience for the Rhode Island community

• Museum of Fine Arts in Boston
  Each year, the Citizens Charitable Foundation partners with the Museum of Fine Arts to offer the Citizens Bank Foundation Martin Luther King Jr. Day Open House. In 2007, the theme of the day was titled Beyond the Dream: The civil rights movement's impact on art, access, identity, and creative voice with special performances and exhibits as well as guided tours offered to art lovers of all ages free of charge.

• Seacoast Repertory Theater
  Citizens Charitable Foundation is the underwriter of the Set the House of Fire Gospel Concert celebrating Martin Luther King, Jr. Day at the Seacoast Repertory Theater in Portsmouth, NH.

• Greater Burlington MultiCultural Center
  Citizens Bank is a major sponsor of the Greater Burlington MultiCultural Center’s annual Dr. Martin Luther King program.

• The Diversity Center
  Charter One in Ohio and The Diversity Center present the Youth Leadership Luncheon each year in honor of the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. The Charter One/The Diversity Center Diversity Champion Award is designed to honor the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.'s legacy of community service by awarding students who show exemplary leadership in the field of diversity and their commitment to community service. Winning students receive a U.S. Savings Bond from Charter One.

• Black Ensemble Theater
  Charter One in Illinois and the Black Ensemble Theater present Plays with a Purpose. This is a program designed to expose inner-city children to the miracle of the theater. The Children perform four musical productions written to teach positive life lessons and values. The plays teach children how to focus, concentrate, listen and remember. These are all basic cognitive skills needed for learning. To kick off the program, free tickets are offered to Chicago Public School students to commemorate the Martin Luther King, Jr. holiday.

• Greater Philadelphia Martin Luther King, Jr. Day of Service
  Since joining the Philadelphia marketplace at the end of 2001, Citizens Bank of Pennsylvania has invested more than $250,000 in the city's Martin Luther King, Jr. festivities. Annually, Citizens Bank volunteers participate in the Greater Philadelphia Martin Luther King, Jr. Day of Service, the nation's largest MLK Day service event. After the passing of civil rights activist C. Delores Tucker in 2005, Citizens Bank took a leadership role in sustaining a 24-year Philadelphia tradition - the Philadelphia Martin Luther King, Jr. Association of Nonviolence, Inc.'s Annual Martin Luther King, Jr. Day Luncheon.

• The MLK Expressions of Freedom writing contest
  In an effort to encourage students to reflect upon the teachings and philosophies of legendary civil rights leader Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., Citizens and Charter One introduced the "Expressions of Freedom" writing contest. It is open to all schoolchildren in grades three through 12. Students are asked to write 100-word essays to describe how they embrace the dream of Dr. King in which all people "live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character." Each winner receives a $100 U.S. Savings Bond plus has his or her essays printed in their local newspapers during the last week in February in conjunction with Black History Month.

• Greater Burlington MultiCultural Center’s Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day
  Citizens Bank in Vermont is a major sponsor of the Greater Burlington, Vermont MultiCultural Center's annual Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. program held in Burlington city hall. Along with projects coordinated by VISTA/Americorps, the celebration also includes a keynote speech by a well known civil rights activist.

At Citizens Financial Group, we pride ourselves on the cultural diversity of our workforce. Banking in Spanish

• Charter One and Citizens Bank in 2006 launched the inaugural debut of the Spanish version Web site portal to provide the rapidly growing Latino / Hispanic population with an innovative tool to learn about CFG's services as well as to provide current customers with a convenient way to access their accounts in their native language.

• CFG offers a Spanish language option on its ATMs. All of CFG's more than 3,300 ATMs enable customers to do their banking in either Spanish or English.

• Another tool for Spanish-speaking customers is CFG's Voice Response Unit “VRU” program. CFG's Spanish-speaking customers may access their account balances, transaction history, fund transfers and more in Spanish by dialing toll free 888-398-7900. Customers can utilize automated functions or speak directly to a Spanish-speaking PhoneBank agent during business hours.

Financial Literacy for diverse communities

• Charter One has partnered with the Tax Assistance Program to help support the organization's signature Tax Preparation Program, a free tax preparation service available in 21 mainly lower-income and minority communities, to assist families and individuals in filing their tax returns and claim valuable tax credits, as well as to provide basic financial literacy education in the effort of helping individuals foster a notion of savings by encouraging the direct deposit of their tax return.

• In partnership with the Mexican Consulate General in Chicago, Charter One has established a pilot program to provide financial literacy training and education at the Consulate while individuals wait for their appointments or their documents to be processed. As part of the Bank's Multicutural Outreach efforts, the Matricula Consular, issued by the Mexican Government through the Consulate General in Chicago, has been accepted as an official form of identification, which has helped hundreds, if not thousands, of unbanked individuals open a savings or checking account at Charter One.

• In partnership with the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation, Charter One has joined the Illinois Alliance for Economic Inclusion, a working group of banks, credit unions, federal bank regulators, government agencies, community-based organizations, researchers and community development corporations, that provide advice and recommendations on important initiatives focused on expanding access to banking services for underserved populations. Lawrence K. Fish, Citizens Financial Group's Chairman, was appointed in 2006 to serve on the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation's national Advisory Committee on Economic Inclusion.

• Charter One, in partnership with the Cuyahoga Earned Income Tax Credit Coalition and Cuyahoga County, hosts Super Refund Saturday. Charter One, Ohio volunteers prepare and file taxes for tax payers with an income of less than $11,750 per year or a family income of $37,263 per year at no charge. Volunteers are also on hand to address questions and provide information on saving and investing, home buying, and reducing debt.

• CFG also partners with the International Institute of Boston to sponsor the Savings for Success program which helps refugee families save for the future. The program offers financial education classes and a match of $2 for every $1 deposited into a Citizens Bank individual development account. A family can save up to $4,000 and individuals can save up to $2,000 per year. IIB's Savings for Success program stimulates participants' savings rates and builds their assets through economic literacy training and a matching funds incentive. This program assists participants to build their personal economic assets while learning long-term financial planning. Continuing activities include: program enrollment, account management, individual counseling, financial literacy workshops and counseling to support an asset purchase. Financial literacy workshops cover topics such as goal setting, budgeting, banking services, credit, taxes, consumer protection, insurance, investing, and retirement.

• In Philadelphia, Money Smart, the FDIC financial literacy program, is offered in Russian by Citizens Bank of Pennsylvania colleagues.

• Citizens Community Bridge in partnership with the Jewish Federation of Greater Philadelphia, has a commitment to provide financial literacy training to hundreds of low-to-moderate income individuals at various Jewish Community Centers throughout the city where the Money Smart curriculum is taught by Citizens Bank of Pennsylvania bankers.

• Charter One in Illinois has adopted the All My Money financial literacy training program, developed by the University of Illinois, for teaching money management and consumer skills to limited resource audiences. The program is available both in English and Spanish.

• CCO Mortgage  (CFG's mortgage banking subsidiary) introduced a new innovative product in 2005 for low/moderate-income homebuyers in traditionally under-served areas. It also expanded efforts to serve immigrants, and is working closely with the state housing finance authorities. For example, it now has a strong partnership with the Chicago Urban League on housing and financial literacy.

MA - 2006 Economic Opportunity Hall of Fame Award - Organization for a New Equality
Because of Citizens Bank's commitment and priority of promoting new ways to address issues of economic self-sufficiency, including financial education and asset development initiatives and the Citizens Housing Bank, Organization for a New Equality (ONE) honored Citizens Bank as a leader in increasing economic opportunity for those most in need.

MA - 2006 "Friends of Boston Chinatown Neighborhood Center Award"
Citizens Bank was presented this award for supporting the organization's various programs. Citizens has sponsored BCNC's Oak Street Youth program and the New Year banquet.

MI - 2006 Best Banker Award
Donna Murray, Vice President of Community Development at Charter One, was awarded the Best Banker Award by the Black Women Contracting Association for her outstanding accomplishment to community development.

IL - 2006 Corporate Citizen's Award -The Latino Resource Center
Charter One Senior Vice President Allen Rodriguez, the bank's State Director of Community Affairs, was honored by the Latino Resource Center with their Corporate Citizen's Award.

IL - 2006 Appreciation Award - Asset Builders Community Development Corporation
Charter One in Illinois was surprised at the annual graduation ceremony of Asset Builders Community Development Corporation with the announcement that the bank was the recipient of the organization's Appreciation Award.

IL - 2006 You Make a Difference Award - Neighborhood Housing Services of Chicago
Charter One Senior Vice President Allen Rodriguez, the bank's State Director of Community Affairs, was presented with the Neighborhood Housing Services of Chicago's You Make a Difference award for his valued contributions and dedicated service as a member of the organization's board of directors.

IL - 2006 Shaping the Future Award - Metropolitan Family Services
Charter One in Illinois was presented with a special recognition at the annual meeting of Metropolitan Family Services when it was presented with the organization's Shaping the Future Award for the bank' commitment to strengthening families.

IL - 2006 Corporate Partnership Award - The Cara Program
Charter One, Illinois's leadership team was presented with The Cara program's Corporate Partnership Award at a special session of the organization's daily Motivations seminar held at Charter One's corporate Chicago headquarters.

RI - 2005 Gold Award for Minority Lending
Citizens Bank was honored with the Gold Award for Minority Lending by the Small Business Administration in Rhode Island at its annual Minority Enterprise Development Week dinner.

PA - Corporate Citizenship Award
