2009 Outstanding Corporation Award - Michigan
Charter One was presented with the Outstanding Corporation Award by the Greater Detroit Chapter of AFP at the National Philanthropy Day recognition event in Dearborn. The Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP) exists to foster the development and growth of fundraising professionals, to preserve and enhance philanthropy and volunteerism, and to promote the highest ethical standards in the fundraising profession. The award is presented to a corporation for demonstrating outstanding commitment through financial support and through encouragement and motivation of others to take leadership roles in philanthropy and community involvement.

Charter One was honored for the outstanding contribution its colleagues and customers made to help the hungry in northeast Ohio. The Harvest for Hunger food and funds drive provides food to hunger centers in 21 northeast Ohio counties.
2009 John H. Chafee Rivers Day Award - Rhode Island
Citizens Bank was awarded the John H. Chafee Rivers Day Award from the Blackstone Valley Tourism Council for supporting the Blackstone River and local environment for many years. The Council works to improve the Blackstone River Valley’s environment, quality of life, recreational uses, and the region’s historical heritage.
2009 Community Award - Massachusetts
Citizens Bank was recognized by Emmaus, a nonprofit group in Haverhill that provides housing and services to homeless adults and families, for Citizens’ outstanding contribution to the establishment of Evergreen Place, an affordable housing project.

2008 Outstanding Partner of the Year - Illinois
Charter One was honored as Outstanding Partner of the Year by the Eighteenth Street Development Corporation for its strategic partnership in fostering community development. For more than 30 years, the ESDC has served the Pilsen community on the Lower West Side of Chicago by providing services for housing, commercial and industrial development, as well as historic preservation.

Environmental Impact
2010 Green Business Award - Connecticut
Business New Haven named Citizens Bank a Green Business Award recipient in the Green Consumer Education / Initiative category. Citizens was cited for its innovative Green$ense program. Green$ense rewards customers ten cents for each electronic payment they make, up to $10 a month and $120 per year. The economic benefits Green$ense has provided for customers in its first year augmented significant benefits to the environment - more than 840,000 gallons of water, nearly 90,000 pounds of paper and more than 1,000 trees saved. The incentive program also prevented nearly three million pounds of CO2 emissions.
2009 Clean Energy Award - Connecticut
The RBS Americas headquarters building in Stamford won a 2009 Connecticut Clean Energy Award from the Connecticut Clean Energy Fund in recognition of its significant commitment to and investment in clean energy. As part of its project in Stamford, RBS Americas purchased 15,000,000 kilowatt hours of electricity for each of the next two years through the Connecticut Clean Energy Options program, the largest commitment to date by any business or institution in Connecticut.
